Be Careful What You Say To A Writer

Be careful what you say to a writer
It just might wind up in the story
It could be your damn life the writer writes about
But the writer gets all of the glory

The writer writes, with his ears
The writer writes with his ears
Jotting down all of those stories
The stories that he overhears

The writer writes about the human condition
The sinners, the saints and the squares
He listens for all of that juicy gossip
And all of them sordid affairs
break

Be careful what you say to a writer
It just might wind up in a song
The writer’s thinking of things to write about
Every day all day long

Life gets filtered through his mind
Then he gives it a little bitty twist
If he tells the story so you laugh or cry
The piece will be hard to resist

break

Be careful what you say to a writer
Just might wind up in your face
The writer will write about your life
But he’ll change your name, the time and the place
