Lyrics

Wisconsin Mushroom Hunt
August 1977 ©Roger Bain

There’s a cabin that I know
It’s in the woods where no one goes
Among the lichens, pines and terns
Between the birch and moss and ferns
We walked behind the cabin
The cedars whispered, the squirrels were jabbin
When we commenced to start our hunt
Our Wisconsin mushroom hunt
A lot came out because it rained last night
Tried to take a picture but the lens wasn’t right
Oh no
Oh yeah

We were on our honeymoon
As we walked, we sang this tune
We had the cabin for a while
Lake Michigan was just a mile (away)
We I-dentified
At least four, and maybe five
Species on our mushroom hunt
Our Wisconsin mushroom hunt
You can try the Boletus
But you better watch out for the Amanitas
Oh no
Oh yeah

If there’s such a thing as love
It’s sent from heaven up above
That’s how we felt that sunny day
We knew that love was here to stay
We walked behind the cabin
The cedars whispered, the squirrels were jabbin
When we commenced to start our hunt
Our Wisconsin mushroom hunt
We might not pass this way again
But oh how we’ll remember when
Oh no
Oh yeah
