Roger Bain Music

Mitch Rosenow and I met in the mid-70s era Lawrence music scene. He was in a band called No TV Motel that played Off The Wall Hall, where I played with The Barking Geckos. We eventually began recording together in his living room, using a 4 track cassette machine. (Those recordings have vanished.) In 1979 he played guitar and helped with backing vocals on the Thanks Mister Banks/Weather Girl sessions. When he lived in Manhattan, KS, I drove out to his place to record my new song, Here Comes Mister Upscale--maybe 1979/80? That recording is also gone. Mitch became a key member of The Geckos for a couple of Lawrence Opera House presentations in the early 80s.
Our major work together is a series of recordings we did  between 1986-1996. This collection, titled Getoutayermind, is set to be completed this year—a mere 15-25 years after we recorded the material. Mitch has recently baked some of the masters and has been tweaking the mixes. You can listen to Here Comes Mister Upscale recorded with Mitch on my Greatest Misses collection on this site.

Getoutayermind

Mitch Rosenow and I began this around 1985. We concluded most of the recording by 1996. All pieces were engineered by Mitch. We have many songs and I'll add one every so often

She's Way Across the Internet (1996) [3:42]
Love on the internet in 1995 was new and dubious. Here's a song with a 50s chord progression, some 80s sounding instrumentation, written and recorded around 1995 and re-mixed with some nice overdubbing by Mitch Rosenow in August of 2010.

Space Migration [4:40]
In the late '70s Dr. Timothy Leary voiced his opinion/theory that a mass migration to space would be the next logical step for mankind. I wrote this song as a soundtrack for that concept. I can recall playing this recording for my Dad on the cassette player as we drove around the block. He thought the tune was pleasant but he wasn't sure about the theory. This recording cries out for headphones and closed eyes.

Yes Man From Yesco [2:19]
I used to play this for the neighborhood kids years ago. They weren't certain what it meant to be a "yes man" but they liked the beat. You can march to it. Watch for this cut on the soon-to-be-released compilation with Mitch Rosenow: "Getouttayermind."
